Except, Jaeger is much more than just a lone man without a village. Mali does not even know her mother and father. Loved the twist, loved the conflict, loved the ending.

Mali is a har and so unsure of what she is doing, that she Mali lives in a small peasant village on a planet so decimated by what, we don’t know, that few people are fertile anymore and men are in very short supply. But none of the men in the village are fertile. It was one of the few instances where I laughed gart loud from the written word.

She is truly addictive and since I read all but 2 of O’Connor’s books, I’ve started hunting down her lesser-known books from her other pen names and discovered “Breeder”. Mali’s character is a charming mix of innocence, courage, caution and rebelliousness. Madris DePasture rated it it was amazing Feb 24, May 15, Sunny rated it liked it. I stand in awe of this woman and her storytelling. I may have upped my rating because I’m comparing it to Assassin’s Blade, but I think this book deserves it.
But, Jaeger isn’t willing, and Mali has to take what she needs. Maybe if it had been longer, it would have stayed as good as the beginning.
